Love It has new editor following deputy’s departure

By Rachael Gallagher

Real-life weekly Love It has a new editor – Siobhan Wykes – following the departure of deputy editor Joely Carey who had been “acting up” to the role.

Press Gazette revealed in December that the magazine’s founding editor Karen Pasquali Jones, publisher Augusta Barnes and art editor Mark Setchfield were all made redundant following its sale by News International to Burda.

Pasquali Jones, who joined the title before its launch in February 2006, had been writing her editor’s letter while she was on maternity leave in the eight months leading up to her departure. The magazine has not published an editor’s letter for the past two weeks.

Deputy editor Joely Carey, who was acting editor during Pasquali Jones’s maternity leave, has now left the title and associate editor Siobhan Wykes has been made acting editor. She is expected to be confirmed in the job shortly and is being assisted by deputy editor Caroline Reid.

Wykes has previously worked for Cosmo Bride, Prima Baby and Woman’s Own.

She said: “Love It is an incredibly successful magazine that I feel very lucky to be the editor of.”

Wykes added that she intends to continue the formula of running the magazine as a “celebrity-real-life hybrid”.

“We intend to continue as we have done and just make it bigger and better,” she added.

Love It recorded a circulation of 372,247 in the first half of 2008, down 7.1 per cent year on year, according to ABC.

News International had tried to sell Love It since it announced in June that it was closing its loss-making News Magazines venture.

The most recent set of accounts at Companies House, for the year ending 30 June 2007, show News Magazines made a £10m loss on revenues of £12.2m.
